Products Questions

Q: How much will it cost me to replace my windows ?

A: Everyone's home is different, and the size and shape of everyone's doors and windows are different too! This means we all have different requirements. We offer such a wide range of styles, colour options, and handles, we need to visit you to measure up before we can give you an accurate idea of how much it will cost. We need to discuss your requirements and demonstrate the products, to see what's right for your home.

Q: What colours do your windows and doors come in ?

A: Our windows and doors come in a range of colours and whilst the standard manufactured colour for uPVC is white, we also offer another four types of wood grain finish plus a huge range of RAL colours.

Our realistic-looking wood effects are Golden Oak, Mahogany and Rosewood. We also have White grain or Black grain available which give the appearance of painted timber.

All of our finishes are available in dual-colour so you can have the outside of your home in a different colour to the white inside.

Q: Are your pvc-u frames steel reinforced ?

A: In the old days of first-generation, single chamber frames, uPVC frames had to be fully reinforced as they simply had very little structural integrity or strength.

As we use the latest multi-chambered technology in all our frames, reinforced to the extruders' specifications, you can be sure your new windows and doors will be just as strong as fully reinforced frames. The state-of-the-art multi-chambered construction ensures structural integrity and robustness in frames, with additional steel reinforcement where required.

Our PVCu windows use 50% less steel than other manufacturers because of the intelligent engineering. They are state of art, environmentally-friendly and virtually maintenance-free.

Q: Do you sell Wooden / Timber windows ?

A:Yes we do offer a range of high quaily timber windows. Please contact our showroom for further details.

If you would like the traditional look of timber but without all the associated maintenance hassles of real wood, then our realistic wood effect profiles are for you.

You can choose from Golden Oak, Mahogany or Rosewood wood grain foil finishes which are very authentic and attractive. Or you can choose a painted look with our White grain foil or Black foil finish.

Q: Do you sell Sash windows ?

A: We sell sliding sash windows in PVCu which are authentic but have all the modern details you would expect including a tilt action to facilitate cleaning. You can choose from The Classic & Authentic Collections or The VIntage Collection which takes the authentic detailing a step further. There is also a range of finishes for the pulls and locks.

Q: Do you sell Aluminium windows and doors ?

A: Thermaframe offers a selection of aluminium windows, patio sliding doors and bi-folding doors. All available in a wide range of colours.

Q: I need to replace my Georgian windows, What do you sell ?

A: We offer a superb variety of options to create a Georgian look to your windows. You can select from a simple integral bar which sits between the glass for a modern take. Or alternatively if you want an authentic finish we have an exclusive product where the bars sit on the surface of the glass. Georgian bars can be fitted to any type of PVCu window or door.

Q: What styles or designs of leading are available ?

A: Currently, we offer 3 leading designs - Georgian Style, Diamond Lead and Square Lead. We may also be able to create bespoke leading patterns and designs to your requirements - please ask your Home Advisor when they visit.

Stained glass options are also available including bespoke patterns. You can choose to have some openers leaded or all of them, you can match this to your patio doors or front doors, there really is a lot to choose from so your windows can be unique to you.

We also sell a large selection of uPVC front doors and back doors, which can be tailored to your tastes by combining stained glass double glazed units with attractive door features and side lights if required. All of our entrance doors have a wide selection of handles, knockers, letter plates and finishes to choose from.

Q: Can you supply and fit Conservatories ?

A: Yes! Thermaframe offer a complete conservatory design, planning, construction and installation service. We have several standard shapes to choose from or we can custom-design a conservatory to suit your needs and home.

Q: Do you sell timber Garden rooms ?

A: We do not sell traditional 'off the shelf' timber outbuildings. We do however sell an energy efficient, 'green' alternative. Our bespoke garden rooms are constructed with a wooden frame from sustainable sources, insulated and then clad in an engineered wood substrate with a PVCu wood grain surface. The interiors have all the modern conveniences you would expect inside your home including plastered walls, electrics and heating.

Q: I want a Glazed Extension, What can you offer ?

A: Thermaframe offer a full design service. We are experienced in creating 'wow' factor extensions and can help you to make full use of glass products to enhance your view and lifestyle.

Q: What is an Orangery ?

A: Orangeries originate from Renaissance Italy and were fashionable in large houses during the 17th and 19th centuries. Today the orangery is usually attached to the main building. Using a combination of traditional materials and modern glazing techniques, orangeries are the ultimate addition to your home. The main differences of an orangery to a conservatory are that they generally contain much less glass and are usually a permanent addition to the home. They often have brick walls with windows and a glass lantern in the roof, but some do have half brick walls and glass.

Buyers Questions

Q: How long will it take from filling in the web request for my windows or doors to actually having them installed ?

A: The time it takes from filling in our quote form to you standing outside admiring your lovely new Thermaframe windows obviously depends on a variety of things (number of windows and doors, your availability, etc), but as a guide 30 days is an average - though this may change from time to time, simply confirm it with your Home Advisor.

Within this time, the actual fit process at your home can take an average of 8 hours, depending on the number of your windows and doors, etc. For large jobs, larger fitting teams will be assigned, meaning that you can have your new windows or doors fitted in as little time as possible! If timing is a concern, please be sure to mention this to your Home Advisor when they visit, and we will make every effort to accommodate your requirements.

Q: Can you give me a price over the phone, or by email ?

A: The law is very strict and local planning regulations and factors specific to your property all need to be considered before anyone can give you a price. So if another company has offered you a price over the phone or online, ask yourself this, 'Without knowing all the information, how can they offer me an accurate price'? Some companies advertise a fixed price, but we believe that you will receive a better product if we visit your home, measure and discuss your requirements and you will be happier in the long term.

Q: I've just bought my windows and doors from you! What happens next ?

A: After we've visited you to measure-up and you've chosen a style and design from our wide range of windows and doors, we take your measurements back to our factory and manufacture your windows to fit exactly. Once completed we bring your new bespoke windows and doors to your home, where our fully trained installation team remove the old windows with the minimum of fuss, fit your new ones and leave it exactly as you would expect - neat, clean and tidy!.

Q: Can my windows be fitted from the outside only ?

A: Much of the work can be done from the outside but the glass fits from the inside and we'll need to be inside to trim the window up against the plaster work.

Q: Do I need planning permission for my new windows or doors ?

A: Not generally however some estate have covenents and buildings of multiple occupancy often do. Speak to one of our consultants and we will give you experienced advice.

Q: Do I need planning permission for my new conservatory ?

A: Most conservatories do not need planning permission if they fall within 'Permitted development'. However you may wish a particularly large conservatory on a small plot, or you may wish to open up the back of your home to be open-plan to the conservatory. Or you may live within a conservation area. In cases like these we would have to obtain planning permission. Thermaframe handle every aspect of planning and building regulations for you, so you don't have to worry.

Security Questions

Q: I want to improve my home security. How strong are your products ?

A: Our full range of PVC-u window products are steel reinforced to the extruder's specification. Where needed, the steel reinforcement will run the full length of the frame, though this isn't always required.

The cutting edge intelligent frame design is very strong and secure. You can rest assured that your new products will offer a very high level of security, and avoid twisting or warping.

Q: How secure are your windows ?

A: All of our replacement windows have security roller bolts and lockable handles. You may also wish to specify additional shoot bolts. The frames are designed with factory fitted gaskets and are internally glazed to prevent intrusion attempts.

Q: What does 'Internally Beaded' mean ?

A: When a frame is described as 'internally-beaded' it means that the beading itself is located on the inside of the frame (ie, facing into the room).

The 'beading' is the part of the frame holding the glass in place, usually a plastic strip at the edge of the glass which snaps securely into the recess. Beading can, however, be removed with careful prising, which is why beading on the inside of the frame (i.e. 'internally-beaded') is obviously much better for security. All of Thermaframe's PVCu windows come internally beaded as standard.

Q: Is it safe to give my contact details over the internet ?

A: We understand your concerns, here at Thermaframe we only ever ask for the bare minimum of information to fulfil your request. All your information is protected under the Data Protection Act, but we've gone much further than this by installing security measures on our site. This ensures that all your data is perfectly safe with Thermaframe!

If you are still nervous, simply give us a call on 01959 534 720

Environmental Questions

Q: What is PVCu and why is it good for windows ?

A: PVCu stands for Polyvinyl Chloride Unplasticized, a durable rigid plastic. PVC was first discovered in 1835 but it wasn't until 1926 that it took off as a new and exciting product that today is used all over the world!

PVC-u contains stabilisers to protect it from the ravages of ultra violet rays from the sun, ensuring that your windows and doors stay the same brilliant colour year after year! With added strengthening agents to ensure your windows won't warp or twist, as well as adding to your security, PVC is great for windows and doors because it's tough, hard-wearing and low-maintenance,  no painting required! And it's good to look at too!

Our Liniar upvc windows are 100% Lead-free and Calcium-Zinc free, the PVCu can be recycled making them good for the environment.

Q: Do your PVCu windows contain lead ?

A: No, our windows are made with PVCu extruded by leading European extruders Liniar who are based in the UK. They are 100% Lead-free unlike some other manufacturers products.

Q: How can I reduce my Carbon Footprint ?

A: All of Thermaframe's PVCu windows are environmentally-friendly, recycled at source and manufactured within the UK. Our A-9 rated glass is the most thermally efficient glass on the home improvement market. When we install your new windows we remove the old ones and take them away to be recycled.

You can reduce your carbon footprint, save energy and money by choosing PVCu windows from Thermaframe.
